“I worked so hard for that first kiss
And a heart don’t forget something like that
Like an old photograph
Time can make a feeling fade
But the memory of a first love
Never fades away.”
Tim McGraw

I learned to play guitar when I was 12, and still play to this day. I’ve learned to play drums in my old age, and some piano. I did play in two talent shows in high school, and let me tell you, it is a great experience to perform in front of an audience. I remember playing in 1976 on a Fender Twin-Reverb amplifier and a borrowed electric guitar. I played songs from teh Beatles, Dobbie Brothers, Guess Who.
When I left for the Air Force, I played every day for about three years, and at times, it was the only thing I could do to stay ‘put’. I still play at the house or with friends, and entertain myself.

I liked some shows you’ve probably never heard of:
Sea Hunt with Lloyd Bridges, The Time Tunnel, Land of Giants, The Invaders,
Sir Francis Drake, Mannix, Robin Hood, The Rockford Files, McCloud,
Mod Squad,
and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Take a moment to think back to when you were young, and then pick three words that best describe what you feel. Then, pause and reflect, and pick three words that describe you now. Did you change at all? How? Who do you like best, the 70s you, or the ‘now’ you?

I must’ve been in 10th grade. I used to walk home every afternoon, and there was this VW sitting by the side of the road, a ‘67. One day my cousin and I got the idea that, since I was getting my learner’s permit, we should get a car. We bought the VW for $125. My first car!!
When we got it home we found it had a bad engine and more ‘bondo’ that you could shake a stick at, but who cared: it had ‘mag’ wheels and HUGE tires in the back! At that time, I had a friend with a few extra VW engines, and we popped one in my bug and went driving that day. It felt nice, and discovered no major issues, except a leak here and there. That night my two cousins and I got dressed up for our first night out in my car.. We went cruising to Old San Juan, and it was an exhilarating drive! Somehow I made a u-turn where I was not supposed too (I think it was just a dark parking lot, but nevertheless..) I got pulled over by the cops. The guy didn’t like that I was on a learner’s permit and made my older cousin drive. That was the end of the night. Well, the VW didn’t last much longer, as it soon needed another engine, so I sold it for $75 bucks. Read the rest of this entry »

I was so cool!! In the early 70s, I had long, curly hair, wore wild, loud, polyester shirts with tight-as-can-be bell bottoms, sometimes a nehru jacket, 2″ mail-order raisers inside my zippered boots, and a Hercules wristband.
